A global accounting firm’s M&A Practice was seeking to promote several senior managers to Partner and sought professional coaching to provide greater executive presence and business development skills in order to meet their partner requirements. Six senior managers were being considered for promotion in one year and Altus was retained to ensure they would develop the competencies required for promotion to Partner.
We conducted interviews with peers, direct reports and their managers to identify where to focus our development and coaching efforts. We reviewed their performance objectives and build detailed, measureable plans to achieve the outcomes and track performance along the way. The participants received bi-weekly coaching and were provided with relevant assignments to practice and embody the learning. We conducted quarterly check-ins with management to assess progress and generate feedback.
One example of actionable counsel leading to direct success… in a recent proposal process where we were competing directly with a Global Big4 advisory firm. After winning the work, the feedback we received was that my style, demeanor and tactical advice were the reason we won the assignment (multiple six figures).
During a presentation to a prospect I was able to readily apply the tactics and strategy taught by my coach to win the work. My coach’s interest and passion for what makes me tick as both a person and as a businessman have had such a meaningful impact to my life and career I will forever be in his debt. I look forward to working together with him throughout my career.
