We trust each other.
We collaborate well.
And, we care deeplyโabout each other, about our clients, and about the impact we are making together.
When clients began asking us about our practices and where they might read about them, we knew we had to put something out there.
So, we thought, โ๐๐ฐ๐ธ ๐ข๐ธ๐ฆ๐ด๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐ธ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ญ๐ฅ ๐ช๐ต ๐ฃ๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฐ ๐ธ๐ณ๐ช๐ต๐ฆ ๐ข ๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฌ ๐ต๐ฐ๐จ๐ฆ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ณ?โ
Writing ๐๐ณ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ณ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ด ๐๐ฏ๐ต๐ฐ ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ฎ๐ด proved to be an incredibly rich opportunity, but not for the reasons you might expect.
Even though we were the same people, we were creating a different result, which meant we became a different teamโwith new perspectives, ways of working together, skill sets, and more.
We had to get clear and have the conversation.
๐ What were we trying to create and how were we bringing value to the world?
๐ What did we already know?
๐ What did we not know that we needed to learn?
๐ How might we make visible what we werenโt seeing?
We also had to talk about how we would work through breakdowns.
For example, we had thought that each person would write a chapter from their experience, and that would make the process 3x faster.
No, the process was 3x longer, and yet it was worth it because we are really proud of the result.
And that experienceโthe breakdowns, the learning, the clarity that followedโmade the book better. (That, and Pam Fox Rollin, whose incredible editing and presence held the work with such care.)
More than that, we came away with deeper empathy for our clients and what they experience when their work takes a new direction, requiring a new team.
Because when the desired outcome shifts, even slightly, the conversations must shift too.
The team that was aligned yesterday might need something different today.
