Steven E. Jones, PhD
Steven partners with cross-sector leaders from government, business, and the community to take actions that dynamically support systems change. He works with leaders, executive teams, and high middle managers to create better conversations with their peers, partners, and direct reports. He brings rich expertise in leadership effectiveness, organizational change, and results-based leadership to his coaching work.
He has worked with private and public clients in US and Europe in technology (IT, software & hardware development, defense contractors), distribution (mass & specialty), manufacturing, healthcare, pharma, biotech, government, education, professional services (financial, engineering, consulting, accounting), construction, social media, non-profit, and foundations (small and large). Clients include Viasat, World Star Hip Hop, Ferring AB, Infantino, Silver Gate Bank, and Cognitive Medical Systems. Prior to starting his consulting career in 2001, Kobe was a financial and management executive in venture-backed start-up, turn-around, and technology growth companies.
Steven’s clients include Peoples Natural Gas, PPG, and Shore Bank, NASA, National Institutes of Health, Food and Drug Administration, CAN, Partnership for Public Service, Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative, Internal Revenue Service, and the Department of Education. He has also consulted with the Annie E Casey Foundation, Bloomberg Foundation, and Living Cities, as well as the National Education Association, Alexandria City, VA, and Arlington County, Virginia public schools. Steven’s focus on expanding leaders’ abilities to transform equity and inclusion through mission-focused actions has benefited Baltimore Leadership in Action Program, Equal Justice, Living Cities, Maryland Leadership in Action Program, Alexandria City, VA, and Arlington County Public Schools, Arlington, VA.
In his prior role as a dean in higher education, Steven led organizational change and developed professional and student leaders who could design futures that transform the lives of those they touch. He has taught both graduate and undergraduate students, with a focus on understanding systems and achieving results. Steven is able to move leaders and teams to know their value, while extending the ability to engage in new ways.
Clients appreciate how he deepens their ability to lead openly and to vibrantly create free spaces from which they can achieve success – regardless of where they sit or stand in the organization. His clients take charge of their capacity to lead and collaborate with others, allowing them to experience magical moments as they discover new ways to coordinate action and achieve next-level outcomes. Steven holds a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. He has been certified as a coach by both Newfield and The Institute for Generative Leadership, holds a certificate in organization development, and is an advanced practitioner of Results-Based Facilitation. He is certified in a variety of assessment tools and 360° instruments, and supports leaders gaining insight for working in teams through the use of the Myers-Briggs tool and the Strengths Deployment Inventory.
Steven is committed to deepening the experiences of belonging and contributions to improve the lives of children and adults by helping facilitate race equity for coaches and leaders within the US and abroad. His work as a mentor and facilitator supports inclusion across the spectrum of human identity. He is a proud husband and uncle, who enjoys traveling, jazz, theater, Pilates, spin class, reading, and visual and performance arts.
