A client CEO asked me to develop six high-potential leaders – a diverse group of mid-level engineers, operations specialists, and scientists. Though their roles varied, it turns out they had a similar desire.
They wanted a better workplace culture.
What happened next was nothing short of inspiring.
Every one of them committed to a shared promise that they themselves developed. They didn’t want just to learn about leadership in our work together. They insisted on applying their learning to make a real difference in their organization.
And, they did. They created cross-functional learning programs. They developed solutions to frustrating dynamics that had gone unresolved for years. They set expectations for their own teams to partner well with the rest of the org, and they role-modeled that behavior.
This is what we at Altus Growth Partners call “Teaming” – the act of transforming a group of people into an aligned and coordinated force to design, sustain, or change a business program to produce a different result.
Leaders, where would it be useful for a cross-functional team to emerge in your company? What’s your next step to set that in motion?
