The reason you snapped in that meeting has almost nothing to do with the meeting.
Nothing happens in a vacuum!
The short fuse. The decision you keep avoiding. The Sunday dread. None of it starts where it shows up.
It starts in the thing you did not sleep off. The conversation at home you are still carrying, the pile of dishes in the sick, what to have for dinner, a sick parent, the offhanded comment from a leader about how you did something.
Most of the leaders I work with come in convinced the problem is them. That they are too reactive, too scattered, too much or not enough.
They are not broken. They are responding, accurately, to a whole system they have stopped noticing.
So we slow down and look at the system. What happened right before, what story got attached to it. What it is actually asking for.
The behavior almost always makes sense once you see what it is standing on.
That is where the stuck loosens. It’s not by trying harder. It’s by seeing clearly, and when we are moving fast it is hard to see clearly.
What is the thing you keep blaming yourself for that might not have started with you?
This is the work I do. If this is landing for you, my calendar has room this fall.
